Jan Jacob Groenemeyer: A Multitalented Sportsman
Early Life and FamilyJan Jacob Groenemeyer was born on June 25, 1887, in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He was the second of five children born to Willem Frederik Groenemeyer and Grietje Dreijer. The family resided in the Willemspark district of Amsterdam.
Sporting Career
CricketGroenemeyer's involvement in sports began at the age of 16 when he joined the VV V cricket club (named after the Latin phrase "veni vidi vici"). In 1903, the club joined the Amsterdam Cricket Association and quickly rose through the ranks. Groenemeyer played for VV V for 40 years, serving as captain and amassing 3000 runs and 850 wickets in first-class cricket. He retired from the sport in May 1943.
Football
Alongside cricket, Groenemeyer also played football for Ajax from 1905 to 1920. He primarily served as a forward and helped the club earn promotion to the top division in 1911. During his time with Ajax, Groenemeyer became the club's second (1912-1913) and first (1914-1927) secretary. He was also a regular football referee after his playing career.

Personal Life
In April 1917, Groenemeyer married Geesje Maria de Kruijff, the sister of his Ajax teammate André de Kruijff. They had two children: a son named Jan and a daughter named Elsje. Groenemeyer's son, Jan, made his debut for VV V in May 1955.
Later Years and Death
According to Groenemeyer's daughter, Elsje Hogendoorn-Groenemeyer, he passed away in October 1957.
