Born in Zamberk, Vilimek was the nephew of the writer and journalist Josef Vilemek (1835-1911). In the 1880s, he gained significant recognition for his numerous portraits of celebrated Czech cultural and social figures published in newspapers such as Humoristicke listy and Svetozor. Vilimek's subjects included Karel Havlicek-Borovsky, Antonin Dvorak, Alois Jirasek, and Jaroslav Vrchlicky.

Historical and International Portraits

Vilimek's oeuvre extended beyond contemporary figures to include portraits of historical personalities. He meticulously captured the likenesses of Jan Hus, Josef Dobrovsky, Bernard Bolzano, and others.
