Early Life and Military ServiceBorn on July 12, 1992, in Daegu, South Korea, Jang Dong Yoon embarked on an unexpected path to stardom. With no aspirations of acting, he attended Gyeongdong Elementary School, Dongdo Middle School, and Gyeongsin High School before enlisting in the military in May 2012.
During his service, Jang earned the nickname "marine man" due to his exceptional swimming skills. He also faced an amusing misadventure involving spilled paint that resulted in a severe scolding. Upon his discharge in February 2014, he enrolled in Hanyang University to study economics.
A Life-Altering Moment
While studying, Jang witnessed an armed robbery at a convenience store in Kwanakku, Seoul. With quick reflexes, he disarmed the assailant, drawing praise from the police and attracting media attention. This incident set him on the path to acting, with the support of his family.
Film Debut and Rising Stardom
Initially self-conscious about the public focus on his heroic act, Jang eventually embraced the opportunity. He made his acting debut in the 2016 mini-series "The Game Towards Zero" and "Perjury." In 2017, he starred in "School 2017," "If We Were a Season," and "The Secret Life of My Secretary."
The following year, Jang played the lead role in the medical drama "Mr. Temporary" and had a supporting role in "Mr. Sunshine." He also appeared in the feature film "Beautiful Days" and the series "Dance Sports Girls," winning his first KBS Drama Award.
In 2019, Jang gained further recognition for his portrayal of a cross-dressing character in the historical drama "The Tale of Nokdu." He won multiple awards, including the KBS Drama Award and the APAN Star Award.
Recent Roles and Personal Life
In 2020, Jang starred in the drama "Run On" and the military thriller "Search." Despite his fame, Jang maintains a private personal life, choosing not to have personal social media accounts.
Known for his height of 177 cm, Jang enjoys swimming, writing poetry, and playing bass guitar. He remains single, expressing a previous desire to marry before the age of 30 to fulfill his love for children.
Current Projects and Philanthropy
In 2022, Jang showcased his versatility in the sci-fi action thriller "Busan Harbor" and the series "The King of Desert." He also has several upcoming projects, including "My Boyfriend Cupid," "Long Distance Relationship," "Aftermath," "Even at Night, the Hospital Is Open," and "Oasis."
Beyond his acting career, Jang has also engaged in philanthropy, donating six million won to a scholarship fund in honor of his father's retirement ceremony.
