Early Life and Family

Jason Lamy-Chappuis was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, to an American mother and a French father. He moved to France from the US at the age of four. Lamy-Chappuis has a significant number of relatives in the US who support him during competitions in North America. He also maintains a close relationship with his cousin Ronan, a ski jumper who participated in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Rise to the Top

Lamy-Chappuis first made his mark in Nordic combined during the 2006/07 World Cup season, when he finished third overall, becoming the first Frenchman to reach the podium since Fabrice Guy won the World Cup in 1991/92. He went on to the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, where he placed fourth in the 7.5 km sprint, 11th in the 15 km individual, and fifth in the team event.

Olympic Glory

Lamy-Chappuis's crowning achievement came at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. After placing fifth in the jumping portion of the 10 km individual, he surged to the front in the cross-country race and overtook American Johnny Spillane in the final kilometer to claim France's first Olympic gold in Nordic combined since 1992 and its first medal in the sport since 1998.

Accomplishments

In addition to his Olympic gold, Lamy-Chappuis is a three-time World Cup overall champion (2009/10, 2010/11, and 2011/12) and a multiple world champion. He was chosen as the flag-bearer for the French delegation at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Recognition and Honors

Lamy-Chappuis received the highest honor in France, the Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur (National Order of the Legion of Honor), in 2010 for his Olympic achievements. He remains an inspiration to aspiring Nordic combined athletes and fans around the world.
