Javier Garrido: A Basque Defender

Javier Garrido, a Spanish footballer from the Basque Country, made his footballing debut in his hometown of Irun. A product of Real Sociedad's youth academy, he played 50 matches in Segunda División B for the B team between 2001 and 2004.

Breaking into Real Sociedad's First Team

Garrido made his debut for Real Sociedad's first team in a Copa del Rey match on October 8, 2003. He became a regular member of the squad in the 2004/05 season, replacing Agustín Aranzabal who left the club in the summer of 2004. During his three seasons with Real Sociedad in La Liga, he played 86 games and scored one goal. In 2007, his team suffered its first relegation in 40 years.

Move to Manchester City

On August 2, 2007, Garrido was acquired by English club Manchester City for a fee of €2.2 million (£1.5 million). He signed a four-year contract with the club, expiring in 2011.

Italian Adventure with Lazio

On July 30, 2010, Garrido signed a five-year contract with Italian club Lazio.

International Career

Javier Garrido represented Spain's under-21 national team nine times.
