Biography of Jay Hernandez
Javier Manuel Hernandez was born in Monte Bello, California, USA, on February 20, 1978. With a passion for acting and a dream of becoming an actor, Jay graduated from his hometown high school in 1996 and started working as a manager for the famous Los Angeles newspaper, "The Chicago Tribune," owned by Howard Tiner. It was Howard who noticed something mysterious in Jay Hernandez's appearance and offered him a chance to try his hand at acting in Hollywood.
Early Career
In 1998, Jay made his debut in the TV series "Hang Time," where he played the role of high school basketball player Antonio Lopez. The show aired for two seasons on NBC and attracted a young audience with its intriguing storyline. After wrapping up his work on NBC, Hernandez switched to MTV to star in the TV series "Undressed." He played the character Eddie, a pizza delivery guy, in this short-lived show scheduled for late-night viewing.
Breakthrough and Mainstream Success
In 2000, Jay Hernandez appeared in two films, "Living the Life" and "Crazy/Beautiful," where he played his first lead roles. The following year, he starred alongside Kirsten Dunst in the drama "Crazy/Beautiful," portraying a remarkably handsome and romantic high school teenager. His character fiercely resists the advances of wealthy girls who may jeopardize his plans to attend the United States Naval Academy.
In 2002, Jay Hernandez took on the role of the captain of the school baseball team, "Wack," in the Disney film "The Rookie." He then had an episodic role in the 2004 movie "Torque" and simultaneously appeared in the drama "Ladder 49," where he played a firefighter who risks his life to save trapped individuals. He continued his film career with "Friday Night Lights" in 2004, "Hostel" in 2005, and "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power" in 2006, where his character, ruthless Carlito Brigante, destroys the world around him with his greed and thirst for revenge. "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power," originally released on US television, performed well and was later distributed on video and DVD.
Continued Success
In 2006, Jay Hernandez appeared in another film centered around the terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, as well as in a small role in the movie "World Trade Center." He also returned for the horror film "Hostel: Part II."
