Early Life and Education

Lydie Err, a Luxembourgish politician and stateswoman, was born and raised in Luxembourg. She left school at the age of 18 but later resumed her studies in 1976 at an evening school. She graduated from the Athenaeum in Luxembourg and obtained a master's degree in private law from the University of Nancy II in October 1981.

Professional Career

Err began her professional career in 1967 at the Uniroyal company laboratory. During this time, she actively participated in the youth section of the Luxembourg Federation of Labor. In 1968, she worked in the administration of the city of Luxembourg before returning to Steinforth in 1969 to take up an equivalent position in the city administration.

Political Involvement

From 1976 to 2004, Err served as director of the intercommunal hospital of Steinforth. She also held the role of mayor of Steinforth from 1982 to 2004.

Err's political career took off in 1984 when she was elected to the Luxembourg Chamber of Deputies. She became the president of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party's parliamentary group in 1989. From 1997 to 2004, Err led the party as president. She served as vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies from 1999 to 2004 and vice-president of the European Socialist Party from 2000 to 2004.

Government Service

Following the elections of June 13, 2004, Err joined the first Juncker-Asselborn government. From July 31, 2004, she held the positions of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration. Additionally, she represented Luxembourg in the Council of EU Ministers for General Affairs and External Relations from July 2004.

After the elections of June 7, 2009, Err remained Deputy Prime Minister and, from July 23, 2009, retained her role as Minister of Foreign Affairs in the renewed coalition government between the Christian Social People's Party and the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party.

Err has been recognized for her contributions and accomplishments throughout her career. She is a recipient of the following awards:
