Biography of Jean Joseph Alexandre Laboulbène
Jean Joseph Alexandre Laboulbène was a French physician and entomologist.
Education and Medical Career
Laboulbène studied in Paris and later worked as a physician in Parisian hospitals. He also delivered lectures on pathological anatomy at the university. In 1879, he was appointed as a professor of medical history.
Scientific Contributions
Laboulbène's scientific work focused on the fields of pathological anatomy, as well as the anatomy, biology, and systematics of insects from various orders. Among his notable works in pathological anatomy is his composition "Nouveaux Éléments d'Anatomie Pathologique" (1878).
Laboulbène also conducted extensive research on insects, with significant contributions such as "Note sur l'anatomie des Insectes" (1852), "Recherches sur l'appareil de la digestion et de la reproduction du Buprestis manca" (1857), and "Liste des Insectes tubérivores etc." (1864).
In collaboration with Féarmère, Laboulbène co-prepared "Faune entomologique française etc." (1854-1856), a comprehensive work on the entomology of France.
