Biography of Jeff Dunas
Jeff Dunas is an American photographer who gained fame for his portraits of celebrities from the world of cinema, music, and entertainment industry. For example, he was the one who discovered a sixteen-year-old future star, Cameron Diaz, in a crowd at a nightclub. In addition to being a photographer, Dunas is also the founder and publisher of several photo magazines. He is also the founder and director of the Palm Springs Photo Festival.

Dunas, born in 1954 in Los Angeles, California, comes from a Greek American background. In his early works, Dunas focused on nude photography and released collections such as 'Captured Women' (1982), 'Mademoiselle, Mademoiselle!' (1983), and 'Voyeur' (1984). However, he later shifted his focus to portraits, creating collections like 'State of the Blues' (1998), 'American Pictures' (2002), and 'Up Close & Personal' (2003). One of his exhibitions, featuring his series 'State of the Blues,' took place at The Muzeo Museum in Anaheim, California.

As a photographer, Dunas draws inspiration from the countless works of other photographers. While some photographers keep their techniques and contacts secret, Dunas generously shares both. He wants his knowledge and experience to benefit other photographers. In recent years, Dunas has transformed the California desert into a mecca for photographers worldwide who come to exchange ideas and experiences at the Palm Springs Photo Festival.
Dunas believes that a photographer should not just capture pretty pictures and wait for a call from a major publication. In his lectures and seminars, he emphasizes the importance of creating opportunities and developing one's own ideas. According to Dunas, during his youth, photographers rarely communicated with each other, and information had to be sought bit by bit. Although some masters conducted workshops and masterclasses, such programs were almost inaccessible. This led Dunas to establish the modern Palm Springs Photo Festival. He also enjoys the opportunity to connect with people who share his passion for photography.
In 1985, Dunas launched the magazine 'Collectors Photography,' which was a significant step in disseminating photography works, ideas, and knowledge to the masses. Dunas considers himself lucky to have lived and studied photography in Los Angeles during the 1970s when the city was considered a hub for artistic photography. He worked for Playboy magazine and had the opportunity to interact with masters like Tony Friedkin and Philip Dixon. Dunas has also gained a wealth of knowledge from books and has one of the most impressive collections of photography books, including many rare editions.
