Fashion designers Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra, known as a design duo, are well-known in the fashion world. They have gained fame for their signature V-neck cuts and incredibly feminine high-waisted designs, as well as being one of the first fashion brands to prioritize organic materials such as cotton, silk, and linen.
Early Life
Jeffrey Costello grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, while Robert Tagliapietra was raised in Westchester, New York. Interestingly, both of them had grandmothers who happened to work as seamstresses for Norman Norell, although they never crossed paths.
Meeting and Collaboration
Jeffrey and Robert first met in the 1990s and immediately realized that their encounter was not a mere coincidence but rather a fateful one for both of them. Jeffrey had started designing clothes in the 1980s, drawing inspiration from the outfits of Madonna, Debi Mazar, and Depeche Mode. Their first collaboration gave both young individuals hope that they could conquer the fashion world as a duo.
Establishment of Costello Tagliapietra
In 2005, Robert and Jeffrey officially founded their brand, Costello Tagliapietra. Their initial recognition came from the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation, as they were awarded for their autumn collection. However, their journey was not easy. With no connections in the fashion world and no privileges, they blindly sent their work to several fashion magazines. After a couple of weeks, they received a call from Vogue, which wrote about them in March. By June, their company was established.
Success and Clients
Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra presented their first collection to the public at the New York Fashion Week in September 2004. They later became winners of the CFDA/Lexus Hybrid Eco Fashion Challenge for their implementation of water-saving technology in material dyeing. Today, among others, their clients include celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Padma Lakshmi, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Cameron Diaz, and many more.
