Jeffrey Pfeffer: A Leading Management Expert
Early Life and EducationDr. Jeffrey Pfeffer was born in 1946. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in management from Carnegie-Mellon University. In 1972, he received his doctorate in organizational behavior from Stanford University.
Academic Career
Pfeffer began his academic career as an assistant professor at the University of Illinois. From 1973 to 1979, he taught at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1979, he joined the faculty of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business.
During his tenure at Stanford, Pfeffer has been a visiting professor at Harvard Business School (1981-1982), Singapore Management University, London Business School, and IESE Business School in Barcelona.
Publications
Pfeffer is a prolific author, having written 13 popular management books and over 100 articles. His best-known work, "Power: Why Some People Have It and Others Don't," examines the dynamics of power and its impact on success.
Research and Consulting
Pfeffer's research interests include power, management practice, and organizational behavior. He has conducted seminars in 34 countries and provides consulting and training services to numerous organizations, including Sutter Health, Mayo Clinic, and Hewlett-Packard.
