Biography of Elena Dokic
Elena Dokic is an Australian tennis player of Serbian descent. She was born on April 12, 1983, in Osijek, Yugoslavia (now Croatia). Dokic and her family fled the war in Yugoslavia when she was 6 years old and later moved to Serbia when she was 11. She eventually obtained Australian citizenship and settled in Sydney with her mother Ljiljana and father Damir. She later moved to the United States and returned to Belgrade. Currently, Dokic resides in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Junior Success and Early Career
As a junior player, Elena Dokic achieved significant success. In 1989, she won the Junior US Open in singles and the Junior French Open in doubles with Kim Clijsters. She reached the top spot in the junior rankings by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and reached the 7th position in doubles.
Olympic Games and Controversies
In the 2000 Summer Olympics, Dokic represented Australia but lost the bronze medal match to Monica Seles. In the 2001 Australian Open, she represented Yugoslavia, and her father and coach, Damir, was expelled from the tournament due to his offensive behavior. Dokic's father had a history of inappropriate behavior, including being asked to leave a tournament in Birmingham in 1999 for calling the organizers Nazis.
Breakthrough and Success
Elena Dokic's breakthrough in her career came in 2001 when she defeated Amélie Mauresmo in the final of the Rome tournament. This victory marked the beginning of a successful period for Dokic. She went on to win several tournaments, including the Toyota Princess Cup in Japan, Kremlin Cup in Moscow, Sarasota Open in Florida, and DFS Classic in Birmingham. In October 2001, Dokic entered the top 10 rankings for the first time in her career, reaching a career-high of 4th in singles and 10th in doubles.

Standing at 1.75 meters tall and weighing only 60 kilograms, Elena Dokic possesses the ability to generate powerful shots and persevere on the court. Despite facing numerous challenges in her personal life, Dokic has learned to enjoy life both on and off the tennis court. She loves shopping, music, and her boyfriend, Brazilian Formula 1 driver Enrique Bernoldi. Dokic embraces the ups and downs of life, stating, "There are tough times, there are good times, and you have to deal with it. I love the life I have. And this undoubtedly difficult life, I wouldn't trade it for anything!"
