Coleman attended the independent Arnold School, where she served as a head girl. In a 2015 interview, the actress revealed that her grandmother came up with the name "Jenna" in honor of the character Jenna Wade, played by Priscilla Presley, in the popular American series "Dallas" from the 1980s. Coleman's acting career began at a young age when she joined the theater company "In Yer Space" and performed in the play "Crystal Clear" at the Edinburgh Festival. In 2005, she auditioned for drama school and landed the role of Jasmine Thomas in "Emmerdale." Her performance in the soap opera received critical acclaim, earning her a nomination for the prestigious National Television Awards in 2006.
