Early Life and Career

Although Jennifer comes from a show business family (her grandfather is the famous comedian Mickey Katz, and her mother is singer Jo Wilder), she did not get the chance to perform as a teenager. However, Grey spent a lot of time in the backstage world when her father performed on Broadway. After high school, Jennifer studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse with Sanford Meisner. Her first dancing role was in a commercial for "Dr. Pepper". She made her stage debut as an apprentice in the New York production of "Album" directed by Joan Micklin Silver, and later appeared in the Chicago version of the play alongside Alan Ruck, her co-star from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Jennifer's Broadway debut came in 1993 in "Twilight of the Golds", where she played the role of a conflicted woman who discovers the possibility that her unborn child might be gay.

Film Career

Jennifer's career in film progressed much faster. She made her debut as the wild Italian girlfriend of Daryl Hannah's character in "Reckless", followed by a role as a gangster's girlfriend in "The Cotton Club" and then as a partisan fighting against Russian and Cuban invaders in "Red Dawn". By the late 1980s, after the success of "Dirty Dancing", she began to receive leading roles. However, these potentially successful characters repeatedly failed to resonate with audiences, possibly because her characters were more sweet than wildly sexual, which was not well-received at the time. Grey had a singing role in the project "Bloodhounds of Broadway" with Madonna and Matt Dillon, followed by a leading role in the 1992 film "Wind" alongside Matthew Modine, both of which also failed at the box office. In 1996, two more films starring Jennifer were released - "Lover's Knot" and "Portraits of a Killer" - both of which suffered the same fate as "Wind".
