Biography of Jenny Lewis
Jenny Lewis is an American actress and indie-folk singer, known for her solo work and for her involvement in projects such as 'Rilo Kiley' and 'Jenny & Johnny'. She was born on January 8, 1976, in Las Vegas, Nevada, to a family of professional singers and musicians. From a young age, she began learning to sing, as well as playing the piano and guitar, under the influence of her parents. Another passion of Lewis was cinema.
In the early 1980s, Lewis made her first appearance on screen in a commercial for the company 'Jell-O'. After that, she was noticed by television producers who frequently invited her to participate in their shows. In 1998, Lewis co-founded the band 'Rilo Kiley' with her friends and boyfriend. Despite her insistence on the name 'Love's Way', the other musicians decided that the chosen name suited the group better.
Thanks to the band's tight sound, they quickly caught the attention of producers, and within a couple of years, they signed a contract with 'Brute/Beaute Records', a subsidiary of 'Warner Bros.'. Their first album, 'More Adventurous', was recorded in the label's studio. The band's second album, 'Under the Blacklight', presented some changes in sound, while still maintaining its originality. It was released directly under 'Warner Bros.', which was a pleasant surprise for the musicians who recognized the support of such a major player in the music scene as the best advertising for a young band.
After the unexpected breakup of the band in the summer of 2011, Jenny Lewis began working intensively on her solo project, which she had started in the early 2000s. Over the years, Lewis has recorded three albums and collaborated with some of the most well-known indie-folk musicians in America. In 2004, she began working on her first studio album, 'Rabbit Fur Coat', which was released two years later after dedicated work. The album featured guest appearances from Conor Oberst, the lead vocalist and frontman of 'Bright Eyes', and James Valentine, the guitarist from 'Maroon 5'.
In 2008, Jenny released her second solo album, 'Acid Tongue', which received mixed reviews. 'Allmusic' critics rated the album 4.5 out of 5 stars, while 'Pitchfork Media' journalists gave it only 6 out of 10 points. Her latest album, 'The Voyager', is set to be released in late summer 2014, marking her first solo record in six years.
