Childhood and Early Life

Kim Jong-gook was born on January 14, 1981, in Busan, South Korea. His father was an unsuccessful actor, and his mother owned a bookstore. As a child, he often visited his mother's store, where he devoured film magazines.

Education and Inspiration

After graduating from high school in Busan, he enrolled in the Seoul Institute of the Arts to study film. Inspired by Park Chan-wook's iconic "Oldboy," he embraced acting as his career path.

Film and Drama Breakthrough

In 2001, Jung debuted in minor film roles. His breakout role came seven years later in Lee Sung-han's directorial debut, "Spare." Their subsequent collaboration, "Desire," garnered critical acclaim and box office success.

Jung wrote the screenplay for "Desire," drawing inspiration from his childhood memories. He won the prestigious Grand Bell Award for Best New Actor, but his success was interrupted by mandatory military service.

Rising Stardom

Returning from the military in 2013, Jung starred in the film "Red Family."There, he met his future wife, actress Kim Yoo-mi. He followed up with critically acclaimed performances in "Reply 1994" and "Himalayas."

In 2015, he played the lead role in "C'est Si Bon,"a film about the formation of the popular folk band Twin Folio. His daughter's birth prompted a career hiatus, but he returned to acting in 2017 with "Hyeongbu" and "The Good Neighbour."

Personal Life

Tall and athletic at 180 cm tall and 70 kg, Jung has always attracted attention. He married Kim Yoo-mi in 2016 in a private ceremony. They have one daughter. A devout Christian, Jung actively shares his faith with his fans.
