Early LifeGeraldine Kurtz, later known as Geraldine Tally, was born in the state of Georgia as an ordinary farm girl. She grew up helping with the harvest of cotton, peanuts, and sweet potatoes. Little did anyone know at the time that this seemingly ordinary child would go on to set records for longevity.

Marital Life
In 1935, Geraldine moved to Inkster, Michigan, where she lived until her death. A year after her move, she married Alfred Tally, and they had a daughter named Thelma Holloway in 1937. Geraldine and Alfred remained married until his death in October 1988.

Hobbies and Interests
Geraldine Tally had a passion for sewing dresses, making quilts, and playing on slot machines at casinos. She also enjoyed bowling until her legs could no longer support her. However, she continued to go fishing with her friend and godson, showcasing her skills by catching seven fish in May 2013 at the age of 114.

Community and Wisdom
Geraldine was an active member of her local Baptist church and was respected by her fellow churchgoers, who referred to her as "Mother Tally." She was known for her wisdom and often sought after for advice. Despite her lack of formal education, Geraldine emphasized the importance of common sense in her recommendations.

Recognition and Longevity
After the death of Elsie Thompson in March 2013, Geraldine Tally was believed to be the oldest living American for some time. However, in July 2014, it was revealed that Gertrude Weaver held that title. After Gertrude's death in April 2015, Geraldine became the oldest living American and the oldest living person in the world. She passed away on June 17, 2015.
Supercentenarian Status
Geraldine Tally officially held the title of a supercentenarian, a term used to describe those who have lived beyond 110 years.
