Jeremy Barrett: A Journey in Pairs Figure Skating

Jeremy Barrett, an American figure skater, has had a remarkable career in pairs skating. He first rose to prominence in 2004 when he became the U.S. Junior National Champion alongside Chantal Jordan.

Early Beginnings and Success with Jordan

Barrett's skating journey began at the age of eight when he competed in regional events as a singles skater. His first partnership in pairs was with his sister, Shawn-Marie, and together they qualified for the U.S. Junior National Championships.

In 2001, Barrett teamed up with Chantal Jordan. Their age difference prevented them from competing internationally at the junior level, but they dominated domestically. They claimed the U.S. Junior National title in 2004 and placed first in an unofficial competition at the French National Championships in 2005. However, their partnership ended after the 2005-2006 season.

Break and Return with Denney

For four months in 2006, Barrett briefly partnered with Cody Denney, but she decided to focus on singles skating. Undeterred, Barrett waited for two years for Denney to return to pairs. During this time, he supported himself through coaching, driving the Zamboni, and serving as a snack bar attendant.

In 2008, Barrett and Denney reunited. Their partnership quickly accelerated, as they placed fourth at the Nebelhorn Trophy and second at the U.S. National Championships. They also finished within the top ten at the Four Continents Championships and the World Championships, a strong debut for the pair. As the highest-ranked American pair at the World Championships (9th), they were selected by the ISU to participate in the inaugural World Team Trophy.
