Jeremy Messersmith is an American indie rock and indie pop musician based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, but spent his childhood in a small town in Washington state. After graduating from high school in 1999, Jeremy decided to attend North Central University, a well-known university located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Instead of returning home after completing his studies, he chose to stay in the cold state of Minnesota.

Jeremy had always had a talent for playing the guitar and singing since childhood, and he occasionally performed with other musicians during his college years. However, it wasn't until after finishing his education that he seriously started writing music. In 2006, he released his debut album "The Alcatraz Kid," which quickly brought him fame as the best young musician in Minnesota. Several alternative radio stations in Minnesota, including The Current and KCRW, also recognized his record.

His choice of album title was explained simply: it was the name used for all prank calls at the company where Jeremy worked. His second album, "The Silver City," was professionally recorded and produced by Dan Wilson, who was known for his work as a vocalist in rock bands Semisonic and Trip Shakespeare, and his collaborations with renowned artists such as Adele and Taylor Swift. The album received positive reviews both locally in Minnesota and nationally. It was ranked as the second best album in the city, just behind the hip-hop artists Atmosphere. Music critics also praised the album, with reviews appearing in major American publications such as Paste Magazine, NY Times, New York Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Wired Magazine, BoingBoing, and many others.
