As one of the most influential guitarists of his generation, Jerry Cantrell has left a huge impact on today's rock scene. His heavy, yet organic playing style, combined with poignant lyrics, propelled the legendary grunge band of the 90s, Alice In Chains, to fame. Cantrell's vocals and melodic music continue to influence modern rock, with many young bands "borrowing" from them without even asking the musician himself. Cantrell has written many amazing songs for Alice In Chains, such as "Rooster," "No Excuses," "Down In A Hole," and "Would?," which have become anthems of the "X" generation.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Most of Jerry Cantrell's childhood was spent without his father, who was serving in Vietnam. Later, Cantrell dedicated a song to him called "Rooster" - the nickname given to his father by his comrades during the war. This song brought father and son closer together. Cantrell first picked up a guitar at the age of 13 and went on to play in several up-and-coming bands in Seattle. He later met Mike Starr (former bassist of Alice In Chains), who introduced him to Sean Kinney (drummer of Alice In Chains), who happened to be dating Mike's sister at the time. At a late-night party, Cantrell met Layne Staley, who was playing in the glam band Alice N' Chains. From that moment on, they decided to create a band together, and in 1987, Alice In Chains was born. Cantrell became the primary songwriter for the group.

The Legend and Solo Career

During the recording of the single "We Die Young" and the album "Facelift," Cantrell experienced the death of his mother. There is a legend that in 1993-1994, when Cantrell was already quite famous, he got trapped in his own house due to a broken garage door. Even the can opener broke, and Jerry almost starved to death. The Degradation Trip and Collaborations

In 2002, Cantrell released the double album "Degradation Trip" ("Roadrunner"), consisting of 25 emotionally charged rock 'n' roll songs. Cantrell himself said the following about the album: "In the studio, we used about 40 or 50 guitars. It was a joy for me to have a guitar tech not from Los Angeles, vintage guitars, and rented equipment, and I had almost all of it in my studio. Guitars were lying everywhere, plugged into amplifiers. I mean, you can imagine that we used every trick in the book. I've always been into layering sounds, using different guitars, and all sorts of other stuff. We tried out all the parameters and combinations of guitars and amps that you can hear on each song. And this album is so big because we approached each song individually. We actually listened to what these songs needed, not what you think they needed. That's a trick we pulled off." Cantrell is also known as the guitarist and keyboardist for Ozzy Osbourne (he can even be seen in music videos like "Dreamer" and "Mama, I'm Coming Home"). His songs "Leave Me Alone" and "Anger Rising" were featured in the films "Cable Guy" and "XXX/2."
