Biography of Jessalyn Gilsig

Jessalyn Gilsig (born November 30, 1971) is a Canadian actress, best known for her roles in the television series 'Boston Public', 'Nip/Tuck', and 'Glee'. She has also appeared in several episodes of 'NYPD Blue', 'Prison Break', and 'Heroes'.

Early Life and Education

Gilsig was born in Montreal, Quebec. Her mother, Clara, was a writer and translator, and her father, Toby Gilsig, was an engineer. She began acting at the age of twelve while attending Trafalgar School for Girls in Montreal. She later studied at the American Repertory Theater at Harvard University. In 1989, she enrolled at McGill University and graduated four years later with an English degree.

Career

After moving to New York in 1995, Gilsig appeared in several off-Broadway plays. Her television career began in the late 1990s, with roles in shows like 'Viper' and 'Seven Days'. However, her breakthrough came after meeting David E. Kelley, which led to her starring role in the series 'Boston Public'.

Following a guest role in two episodes of Kelley's project 'The Practice', Gilsig was invited to appear in another of his series, 'Snoops'. Unfortunately, the show was canceled before her episodes aired. However, her collaboration with Kelley continued, and she was cast as Lauren Davis in 'Boston Public', which premiered in September 2000 and lasted until May 2002.

After leaving the project, Gilsig joined the cast of 'Nip/Tuck', playing the role of Gina Russo from 2003 to 2008. In 2004, she appeared in five episodes of 'NYPD Blue' and in 2005, she appeared in four episodes of 'Prison Break'. In early 2006, she portrayed the lead role in an episode of 'Law & Order'.

Personal Life

In the summer of 2005, Gilsig married film producer Bobby Salomon. Their wedding was featured in an issue of 'InStyle' magazine. They have one child together, a daughter named Penelope, born on September 26, 2006.

Gilsig is of Jewish descent through her father's side, and their wedding ceremony was conducted according to Jewish traditions.
