Early Life and Education
Born on December 9, 1978, in Carmel, California, Jesse Metcalfe grew up in Waterford, Connecticut. His heritage boasts a blend of Italian, French, and Portuguese ancestry. As a child, he developed a passion for basketball.
Aspiring to become a writer and director, Metcalfe enrolled at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. He made early appearances in student films like "Jesus & Tequila" and "Phasmagoria."
Breakthrough in Television
After relocating to Los Angeles, Metcalfe attended an open casting call and landed the role of Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald in NBC's soap opera "Passions." For four years, he portrayed one of the four children in the bustling Lopez-Fitzgerald family.
In 2003, Metcalfe left "Passions" in search of more challenging roles. He made a guest appearance in "Smallville" before securing his breakout role as John Rowland in ABC's hit drama series "Desperate Housewives." His character's clandestine affair with Eva Longoria's Gabrielle Solis garnered immense attention, particularly due to his frequent shirtless scenes.
Departure from "Desperate Housewives"
Rumors circulated in October 2005 that Metcalfe was leaving "Desperate Housewives" to reprise his role in "Passions." However, Metcalfe made it clear that he was "looking forward," quashing fan hopes of a return to the NBC soap.
Film Debut and Beyond
Metcalfe's film debut came in 2006 with "John Tucker Must Die," where he played a popular high school basketball player who juggles multiple relationships. He has since starred in several comedies, including "Ashes" and "The Other End of the Line."
In addition to acting, Metcalfe remains an avid basketball enthusiast. He also plays guitar and piano, dabbles in sculpting, and enjoys singing.
