Origins and Founding

In 1999, a youth group from Bethel Church in Redding, California, led by director Banning Liebscher, organized the first Jesus Culture conference. This conference, attended by approximately 500 people, was the genesis of the Jesus Culture movement.

Concept and Mission

The name "Jesus Culture" arose from a spontaneous idea. Liebscher, inspired by the concept of counterculture but seeking something deeper, envisioned a culture centered on Jesus. The movement aimed to establish a generation that embodied Christ's character, not defined by outward symbols or labels.

At the core of Jesus Culture lies a "Revival Culture," emphasizing a supernatural lifestyle that extends God's kingdom by bringing heaven to earth. The movement believes in empowering young people with a passion for God to facilitate encounters with Him and witness miracles in their communities.

Leadership and Vision

Banning Liebscher, the founding director, remains steadfast in the vision of raising up leaders who will impact society in various spheres, including media, education, and business. He believes that God is marking a generation of young revivalists who will dedicate their lives to establishing His kingdom.

Chris Quilala, a worship leader with Jesus Culture, emphasizes the dual purpose of their ministry: providing an environment for people to experience God's presence through worship and equipping them to witness miracles and share their experiences in their communities.

Music Ministry

Jesus Culture Music is a collective of worship leaders and musicians committed to reaching a generation through the power of God's presence. Since 2005, they have recorded live albums at youth and young adult conferences. Beyond worship, they also train and equip young worship leaders to spread the gospel through music and discipleship.

Kim Walker-Smith, the vocal powerhouse of the movement, describes their songwriting process as centered around fostering a profound relationship with the Holy Spirit. Their songs are primarily covers, but they aspire to create original music that reflects their passion for God and the pursuit of His presence.
