Jiang Jianqing started his career in the fields of Jiangxi province and coal mines in Henan province. During the Cultural Revolution, he worked in the fields and mines as part of a labor education program. In 1986, he joined ICBC as an operations officer in Shanghai. At that time, Jiang already had a higher education degree from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and later earned a master's degree and a doctorate from Jiao Tong University.
