Early Life and Family
Felix Warburg, a prominent German-American financier of Jewish descent, was born into a distinguished banking family. His father, Moses Warburg, was a German banker. Felix had several notable siblings, including the art historian Aby, the "father of the Federal Reserve System" Paul, the director of the family bank Max, and the theologian Fritz.
Emigration to the United States
In 1894, Felix moved to the United States. That same year, he married Frieda Schiff, daughter of Jacob Schiff, president of Kuhn, Loeb & Co. Felix became a senior partner in the firm.
Financial Career
Warburg played a key role in providing Britain with long-term credit for modernizing its naval and military forces under the "British Naval and Military Loan Act" of 1910. He was also involved in various philanthropic endeavors.
Visit to the Soviet Union
In 1927, Felix Warburg traveled to the Soviet Union as a leader of the "Agro-Joint" project. He visited numerous Jewish settlements in Ukraine and Crimea.
Family and Legacy
Felix Warburg had four sons: Frederick Marcus, Gerald Felix, Paul Felix, and Edward Mortimer. He also had a daughter, Carola, who married Walter Nathan Rothschild in 1916.
