Biography of Joachim Löw
Joachim Löw is a former German football player and the current head coach of the German national football team. He was born on February 3, 1960, in Schönau, Germany.
Football Career
Löw began his football career in 1978 as an attacking midfielder for the German second division team, Freiburg. He played for two seasons, scoring 18 goals in 71 matches. Löw then moved on to play for Stuttgart in the 1980-1981 season, but the partnership did not work out. He subsequently played for Eintracht Frankfurt in the 1981-1982 season, scoring 5 goals in 24 matches. Löw returned to Freiburg in 1982 and had a more successful run, scoring 8 goals in 34 matches. The following season, he played for Karlsruher SC, but only managed to score 2 goals in 24 matches. Löw returned to Freiburg once again and played for the club from 1985 to 1989, scoring 38 goals in 116 matches. He ended his playing career in Switzerland, playing for Schaffhausen from 1989 to 1992 and FC Winterthur for two seasons.
Coaching Career
Löw began his coaching career while still an active player, coaching the youth team of FC Winterthur. From 1994 to 1995, he was a player-coach for another Swiss club, Frauenfeld. In 1995-1996, Löw served as an assistant coach to Rolf Fringer at Stuttgart. When Fringer left to become the coach of the Swiss national team, Löw was appointed as the interim head coach and officially took over in August 1996. Under his guidance, the team had a successful season and won the German Football Association (DFB) Cup. The following year, the team reached the final of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, but lost to Chelsea with a score of 0-1. In the Bundesliga, Löw's team finished in fourth place.
In July 1998, Löw left Stuttgart and became the coach of Turkish club Fenerbahce. In October 1999, he returned to Germany and took over as the coach of Karlsruher SC, but was unable to achieve the desired results. In the 2000-2001 season, Löw returned to Turkey as the coach of Adanaspor. In October 2001, he became the coach of Tirol and led the team to victory in the Austrian championship in 2002. However, the club was forced to declare bankruptcy and was dissolved. Löw then worked for Austria Vienna for one season until August 2004 when he was invited to be an assistant coach for the German national team.
During the 2006 FIFA World Cup, Löw and Jurgen Klinsmann, the head coach at the time, led the German national team to an impressive performance. The team reached the semi-finals, eventually finishing in third place after defeating Portugal 3-1 in the consolation final. After Klinsmann's departure, Löw was appointed as the head coach of the German national team on July 12, 2006.
Under Löw's leadership, the team prepared for the 2008 UEFA European Championship, winning five consecutive matches before the tournament. Germany reached the final but lost to Spain with a score of 0-1. They continued to perform well in subsequent tournaments, reaching the semi-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the final of the 2012 UEFA European Championship. In 2014, Germany won the FIFA World Cup under Löw's coaching. Löw continued to lead the team until 2021.
