Early Life and Education
Vitaly Mutko was born on December 8, 1958 in the Krasnodar Territory. He entered the Vocational School No. 226 in Petrokrepost, Leningrad Oblast at age 14. Mutko went on to graduate with honors from the River School, the Institute of Water Transport, and the Leningrad State University (Faculty of Law).
Professional Career
Mutko began his career as a sailor and motorman for the North-Western River Shipping Company. He later served as Chairman of the Trade Union of the River School. Mutko's organizational skills led him to hold various positions within the Kirosvsky District Council of People's Deputies.
Political Appointments
During the 1990s, Mutko was appointed Vice-Mayor of St. Petersburg and Chairman of the Committee for Social Issues. He has held the post of President of the football club "Zenith" since 1993.
Sports Administration
Mutko was appointed President of the Russian Football Premier League in 2001. He is also a member of the RFU Executive Committee, President of the Russian Football Premier League, and Vice-President of the Football Federation of St. Petersburg and North-Western Russia.
Ministerial Appointments
Mutko was appointed to the Council of the Federation in 2003. From 2008-2016, he served as Minister of Sports, Tourism, and Youth Affairs.
Awards and Recognition
Mutko has received the Order of Friendship for carrying out important social programs and the title of "Honored Worker of Physical Culture and Sports."
