Early Career in TurkeyJoão Batista, a Brazilian midfielder with dual citizenship, began his professional career in Turkey in the 1996/1997 season with Gaziantepspor. He made 25 appearances and scored 3 goals for the club. After a brief stint in Brazil with União São João, he returned to Gaziantepspor in 2000.
Success at Galatasaray
In 2002, Batista joined Turkish giants Galatasaray, where he reunited with his former coach Mircea Lucescu. He played a key role in Galatasaray's Turkish league title win and was part of the team that reached the UEFA Cup final.
Arrival in Ukraine and Achievements
In July 2004, Batista signed a three-year contract with Shakhtar Donetsk. Under the guidance of Lucescu, he helped the team win the Ukrainian league title and reach the final of the Ukrainian Cup, where they lost to Dynamo Kyiv. However, Batista's time at Shakhtar was cut short due to the club's high number of foreign players.
Return to Turkey
In July 2005, Batista returned to Turkey, signing a one-year deal with Konyaspor. He later played for Kasımpaşa before joining his current club, Mersin İdmanyurdu.
