Childhood and Early Life
Joe Alaskey was born on April 17, 1952, in Troy, New York. His father, Joseph Francis Alaskey Jr., was a WW2 veteran, and his mother, Domenica "Dorothy" De Sorrento De Lucia Alaskey, was a homemaker. He had a brother, John Ned Alaskey, and a sister, Joanne Valente.
From a young age, Alaskey exhibited a remarkable talent for imitating voices. By the age of three, he could mimic his family members, and at five, he began performing for his family. Despite his vocal abilities, Alaskey initially pursued other interests. He considered archaeology, priesthood, and English teaching.
Early Career
After graduating from La Salle Institute, Alaskey briefly relocated to Encino, California. However, he returned to New York in the early 1970s and worked in the insurance industry.
Alaskey's acting career took off in 1985 when he voiced minor characters in the animated series "Galtar and the Golden Lance." In 1988, he made his big screen debut in the animated film "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." From 1995 onward, he also lent his voice to various video games.
The Voice of Mel Blanc's Characters
Alaskey became known as the successor to Mel Blanc, the legendary "Man of a Thousand Voices." He voiced many of Blanc's iconic characters, including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, Porky Pig, and Sylvester the Cat.
