Early Life and Amateur Career
Joe Calzaghe was born on March 23, 1972, in Hammersmith, England. His father, Enzo, was Sardinian, while his mother, Jackie, was Welsh. Calzaghe moved to Wales with his family when he was two years old. He began boxing at the age of nine as a southpaw, compiling an impressive amateur record of 120+ fights and winning four ABA school titles.
Professional Boxing Career
In 1993, Calzaghe turned professional. He established himself as a force in the super-middleweight division, defeating notable opponents such as Chris Eubank and Mario Feicht. In 1997, he won the vacant WBO super-middleweight title.
