Biography of Joel Spolsky
Joel Spolsky, whose full name is Avram Joel Spolsky, was born in 1965 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, into a Jewish family. He lived in the United States until the age of 15, when his parents decided to return to their homeland in Israel and start a new life. After moving to Jerusalem, Israel, Joel attended school, excelling in computer science and other exact sciences.

Early Life and Military Service
For the next two years, Spolsky served in the Israeli army. Not much is known about this period of his life, but Joel fondly recalls the fun times he had. He often shared army stories with journalists, drawing parallels to his work. According to Joel, the army left a deep impression on his soul, including the memorable experience of being thrown out of an airplane with a parachute without any instructions on how to use it. However, daily parachute jumps became a habit for him.

Education and Career
In 1987, Joel returned to the United States to continue his education at the University of Pennsylvania. After a year, he transferred to Pierson College, Yale University, where he graduated in 1991 with a degree in computer science and programming. Immediately after graduation, he received a job offer from Microsoft to work in the software development department of Microsoft Excel.
Entrepreneurship and Blogging
After a brief period at Microsoft, Spolsky worked for various companies, including Viacom and Juno. In 2000, he decided to start his own venture and founded Fog Creek Software. He also began writing his famous blog, Joel on Software, which became one of the first blogs on the Internet to be run by a well-known businessman. Despite initial skepticism about the value of blogging, Spolsky's blog gained popularity and established him as one of the most well-known bloggers on the Internet. In his blog, Joel discusses programming topics, primarily related to Windows.
Literary Works and Personal Life
In 2001, Spolsky published his first book, "User Interface Design for Programmers," which added to his popularity as an author. Over the following years, he released four more books that continue to be popular among programmers worldwide.
Joel spends most of his time behind a computer, sharing his thoughts and experiences in his blog. He states that he loves music, programming, and engaging with intelligent people. Spolsky leads an active lifestyle and abstains from alcohol and smoking. For several years, he has been living in New York with his partner Jared, whom he reassured his parents was also Jewish when they started their relationship.
