Johan Lindeberg

Early Life and Career

Johan Lindeberg was born in 1957 in Sweden. From 1990 to 1996, he served as the marketing director of the denim brand 'Diesel'. During the same period, he was also the general manager of the company's division in the United States. Lindeberg decided to leave his position at 'Diesel' in 1995 to pursue the creation of his own brand, 'J. Lindeberg'. This brand revolutionized sportswear, including golf clothing, by making it fashionable and stylish.

Establishing 'J. Lindeberg'

Johan Lindeberg maintained a good relationship with Renzo Rosso, the founder and owner of 'Diesel'. However, he felt the need to unleash his own fashion vision and decided to create his own brand. During his travels across Europe on his motorcycle, he came up with the idea for a fashion brand that reflected his personal and creative values and had unique characteristics. 'J. Lindeberg' was launched in the summer of 1996 simultaneously in Stockholm and New York. Lindeberg established parallel offices in both cities to ensure the brand's international presence. The brand name was derived from Lindeberg's own signature. Despite investing all his savings into the company, Lindeberg had to bring in several investors to support the venture. He remained the creative director of 'J. Lindeberg' until 2007.

Later Career

Under Lindeberg's leadership, 'J. Lindeberg' assembled a small team of designers, primarily recruited from the Swedish retail brand 'H&M', known for its quality and affordable everyday clothing. In 2007, Johan Lindeberg relocated to New York to take on the role of creative director at 'William Rast', a fashion brand owned by Justin Timberlake. He held this position until 2009. Lindeberg left 'William Rast' in 2009 to work on a new lifestyle brand called 'Paris68'. In 2010, Johan Lindeberg joined forces with the 'Kellwood Company' and took on the role of creative director at 'BLK DNM', a New York-based denim brand.
