Laurens de Coester, a German physician, was born into a family of doctors. He studied medicine at the University of Königsberg and received his doctorate in 1646.
Medical Practice in Europe
Dr. de Coester served as royal physician to King Charles Gustav of Sweden before being invited by Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich to become his personal physician in 1667. He relocated to Moscow with his wife, Ursula, and their five sons and one daughter.
Medical Contributions
De Coester was a prolific medical author. His works, such as "De dysenteria" (1646) and "Opera medica" (1668), provided valuable insights into various medical conditions. His "Affectuum totius corporis humani praecipuorum theoria et praxis" (1663) was an influential text on the diagnosis and treatment of common ailments.
