Johannes Wildner is an Austrian conductor and violinist who has made significant contributions to the music world.
Early Career and Education
Wildner graduated from the Vienna Academy of Music and went on to play in the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. He also performed with the Johann Strauss Ensemble under the patronage of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra.
Conducting Roles
Wildner began his conducting career in 1990-1993 as the director of the Košice Philharmonic Orchestra. He later held roles at the Prague Opera (1994-1995) and the Leipzig Opera (1996-1998).
Principal Conductor of the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia
From 1997 to 2007, Wildner served as the first principal conductor of the merged New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia. In this capacity, he also assumed the responsibilities of Generalmusikdirektor (General Music Director) for the opera theater in Gelsenkirchen.
International Acclaim
Wildner has garnered international recognition as a guest conductor with numerous orchestras and opera companies worldwide. His operatic performances include productions of Bizet's "Carmen" at the Arena di Verona, Mozart's "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" in Salzburg, Johann Strauss's "Die Fledermaus" in Tokyo, and Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" in Bombay.
Recordings and Legacy
Wildner has released over 60 CD recordings, primarily featuring works by Mozart and Strauss. In 2010, he recorded a triple album of Robert Schumann's complete works for piano and orchestra with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and soloist Lev Vinocour.
