Early Life and Career

Born and raised in Manchester, Gordon Aston Jr. joined the renowned Manchester United youth academy. He made his club debut in 1965 against Leicester City. His father, John Aston Sr., also played for United during the post-war era and later served as a club coach.

Manchester United Success

Aston Jr. played a significant role in United's First Division triumph in the 1966/67 season. He also featured in the historic 1967/68 European Cup Final at Wembley, where United defeated Benfica. During his seven years at Old Trafford, Aston Jr. made 187 appearances and scored 27 goals.

Post-United Career

In 1972, Aston Jr. moved to Luton Town, where he played until 1977. He subsequently had spells at Mansfield Town and Blackburn Rovers before retiring from playing in the late 1970s.

Nepotism Allegations

Aston Jr.'s association with his father led to criticism from some fans who believed his father's influence unduly promoted his selection to the first team. This hindered his popularity compared to other attacking stars of the era, such as George Best, Bobby Charlton, and Denis Law.

Later Life

Following his retirement, Aston Jr. went into business and currently owns a shop in Stalybridge, Greater Manchester. His son, Mark, is a physical education teacher at a high school in Bury.
