John Edward Robinson was born in 1943 in Cicero, Illinois. He was the third of five children in a family with an alcoholic father. In 1961, Robinson began studying at Morton Junior College with the intention of becoming a medical technician, but he abandoned this pursuit after two years. In 1964, he moved to Kansas City and married Nancy Jo Lynch. They had their first child, John Jr., in 1965, and twins Christopher and Christine in 1971.

Robinson's criminal activities began in 1969 when he was arrested for embezzling $33,000 while working as an X-ray technician. He had falsified documents to obtain the position. Despite receiving a three-year suspended sentence, he violated the terms of his probation in 1970 and began working as an insurance agent under false identities in Chicago.

He was arrested again in 1971 for embezzlement from the company where he worked, and his probation was extended. In 1975, Robinson faced further charges related to securities fraud. Surprisingly, during this period, he appeared respectable, working as a baseball coach for the Scout organization and teaching at a Sunday school. He even became the chairman of a charity organization, earning the title of "Man of the Year."

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Robinson engaged in check fraud, which attracted police attention. He also joined a cult named "R.B. Jones Company," which practiced sadomasochism. His murder spree began in 1984.

Robinson's first victim was Paula Godfrey, whom he hired as a sales representative. She disappeared, and Robinson claimed to know nothing about her whereabouts. However, her family received a letter from Paula stating that she did not want to see them. In 1985, under the alias John Osborne, Robinson encountered Lisa Stasi and her 4-month-old daughter Tiffany. He arranged for his brother and sister-in-law, who were unable to have children, to adopt Tiffany. Lisa Stasi was never seen again.

In June 1987, Catherine Clampitt went missing after going to Kansas City to search for a job. Robinson spent the period from 1987 to 1993 in prison for fraud. After his release, he began using the internet to find victims, adopting the nickname "Slavemaster." He lured victims like Sheila Faith, Izabela Lewicka, and Suzette Trouten through online chat rooms and forums.

Robinson's crimes eventually caught up with him when he was arrested for theft of a sex toy. In 2002, he stood trial in Kansas City, where he was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to death. The execution has not been carried out due to ongoing investigations and the fact that not all of Robinson's victims' bodies have been found.

John Edward Robinson is not only known as a serial killer, but also as a fraudster, kidnapper, and manipulator. He holds the title of being the first Internet serial killer.
