Early Life and Education

Born in Detroit, Gray attended two universities but ultimately left both. He spent nine years in a monastery in Switzerland, where he studied transcendental meditation and earned a bachelor's and master's degree from a Maharishi center. In 1982, he earned a doctorate in psychology and human sexuality from Columbia University.

Gray has been practicing as a family psychotherapist for over 15 years and conducts personal growth seminars. He has appeared on talk shows hosted by Larry King and Oprah Winfrey and has participated in numerous television and radio programs.

"Mars and Venus" Series

Gray is most famous for his "Mars and Venus" series, starting with "Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus" in 1993. The book became one of the most influential books of the past 25 years and has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
