Early Life and Education

John Burke Krasinski was born on October 20, 1979, in Brighton, Massachusetts. His father, Ronald Krasinski, was a medical doctor, and his mother, Mary Clare Krasinski, was a nurse. Krasinski's paternal ancestry is Polish, and his maternal ancestry is Irish. He grew up in Newton, a suburb of Boston, where he attended Newton South High School.

Krasinski first became interested in acting in elementary school when he starred as Sir Oliver "Daddy" Warbucks in a sixth-grade production of the musical "Annie." He graduated from Newton South in 1997 with B.J. Novak, who would later co-star with him in "The Office."

After high school, Krasinski taught English in Costa Rica for a time before enrolling at Brown University, where he majored in drama. He graduated in 2001 with a degree in playwriting. While at Brown, Krasinski was a member of the sketch comedy group "Out of Bounds" and coached the varsity basketball team at Gordon School in East Providence, Rhode Island.

Acting Career

Upon graduating from college, Krasinski continued his acting studies at the National Theater Institute in Waterford, Connecticut, as well as with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, and the Actors Center in New York City. He moved to New York City to pursue a career in theater and film, working as a waiter while auditioning for roles.

Krasinski's early film and television roles were relatively minor, including productions such as "What the Eunuch Saw," "Life as a House," "Fighting Still Life," "Alma Mater," "Ed," "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," "Kinsey," and "Taxi."

Breakthrough with "The Office"

Krasinski's breakthrough came in 2005 when he landed one of the lead roles in the NBC comedy series "The Office." He played Jim Halpert, an ambitious and sarcastic paper salesman at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Inc. Jim was a central character throughout all nine seasons of "The Office," appearing in 201 episodes. Krasinski received numerous award nominations for his performance, including two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

Post-"The Office" Career

Following the end of "The Office," Krasinski has starred in numerous films and television shows. Some of his most notable projects include "C.S.I.: Crime Scene Investigation," "Jarhead," "American Dad!" (voice), "The Holiday," "Dreamgirls," "Shrek the Third" (voice), "License to Wed," "Leatherheads," "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" (directorial and writing debut), "Monsters vs. Aliens" (voice), "Away We Go," "It's Complicated," "Big Miracle," "30 Rock," "Monsters University" (voice), "The Wind Rises" (voice actor), "The Prophet" (voice), "BoJack Horseman" (voice), "13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi," "Robot Chicken" (voice), "A Quiet Place," and "Jack Ryan."

Non-Acting Work

In addition to his acting career, Krasinski has also served as an executive producer on the Oscar-winning film "Manchester by the Sea" (2016). He is set to executive produce the sequel to "A Quiet Place" (2018).

Personal Life

Krasinski is married to actress Emily Blunt. They began dating in November 2008, got engaged in August 2009, and married in July 2010 in Como, Italy. They have two daughters: Hazel Grace (born February 2014) and Violet (born June 2016).
