Early Life and Family
Vyacheslav Melehov was born on April 17, 1945, into a family with a rich military history. His grandfather, a successful blacksmith, was unjustly accused of being a kulak and later rehabilitated. His father worked as a train dispatcher on the railroad, while his uncle was a renowned commander in the Red Army, whose name graces a street in the town of Arti.
Educational Background and Theatrical Beginnings
Melehov's love for the stage blossomed at an early age when he joined a drama club. In 1971, he graduated from the Sverdlovsk Theatrical College (now the Yekaterinburg State Theater Institute).
Time in Leningrad and Return to Sverdlovsk
After graduating, Melehov joined the troupe of the Theater of the Lensovet in Leningrad, under the guidance of Igor Vladimirov. However, he soon returned to Sverdlovsk (now Yekaterinburg) and joined the Sverdlovsk Academic Drama Theater, where he would perform throughout his career.
Awards and Accolades
In 1985, Melehov received the "Best Role of the Year" award for his performance as Derveod in "Rank and File." In 2002, he was awarded the same honor for his leading role in "Persian Lilac." For his portrayal of Mikich Kotriants in the comedy "Khanuma," he was bestowed with the Sverdlovsk Region Governor's Prize "For Outstanding Achievements in Literature and Art" and the Vera Shatrova Scholarship.
Later Career and Legacy
In 2006, Melehov was honored with the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation. Throughout his distinguished career, he left an indelible mark on the Sverdlovsk Academic Drama Theater, where he was known for his exceptional talent and dedication.
Departure
Vyacheslav Melehov passed away on October 26, 2012, after a battle with lung cancer. His legacy as an accomplished actor and a beloved member of the Sverdlovsk theater community continues to inspire young performers and theater enthusiasts alike.
