Political Career

John Lynch is a businessman and politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. He was elected as the 90th governor of New Hampshire on November 2, 2004, defeating the Republican candidate and the incumbent governor at the time, Craig Benson, by a narrow margin. Benson became the first New Hampshire governor in 78 years to serve only one term. Lynch was inaugurated on January 6, 2005.

Lynch was re-elected for a second term, winning 74% of the votes against the Republican candidate Jim Coburn. This marked the highest result in the history of gubernatorial elections in the state. In 2008, he was re-elected for a third term, defeating Republican Senator Joe Kenney with a similar result of 70% of the votes.

Throughout his tenure as governor, John Lynch focused on improving the quality of life for the local population. His priorities included the development and support of small businesses, strengthening the state's economy, creating new jobs, enhancing education and healthcare programs, and protecting the environment. Due to his successful collaboration with the police, New Hampshire remains one of the safest states in the US with remarkably low crime rates.

Despite personally opposing same-sex marriage, on June 3, 2009, Lynch signed a law legalizing same-sex marriage in New Hampshire. The state thus became the fifth in the US to allow such unions.
