Early Life and EducationJohn Macmillan, a British actor of Malawian descent, grew up in Zambia, South Africa, Swaziland (now Eswatini), and Malawi. He refined his acting skills at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in the United Kingdom, where he currently resides.
Acting Career
Macmillan's on-screen debut came in 2009, and a year later, he made a cameo appearance in the television series "Sherlock." He has since established himself as a notable television actor, portraying memorable characters in "Silk," "Chewing Gum," and "Midsomer Murders." In the comedy sketch show "Famalam," he portrayed over 30 different characters.
On the big screen, Macmillan has appeared in notable films such as "Batman Begins," "Maleficent," and "World War Z." His portrayal of Edmund in the television adaptation of Shakespeare's "King Lear" earned him critical acclaim.
Macmillan has also branched out into other roles behind the camera. In 2011, he served as actor, producer, director, and screenwriter for the short film "The Hype Man." He later wrote the storyline for another short film titled "Skype Sex." In summer 2022, Macmillan appeared in the first season of the television series "House of the Dragon." He portrayed Ser Laenor Velaryon, the younger son of Lord Corlys Velaryon and Princess Rhaenys Velaryon. The younger version of the character was played by Theo Nate.
Laenor's character met an untimely demise, and his funeral became the scene of another tragedy when his heirs fought with Prince Aemond Targaryen, who lost an eye as a result of his mockery.
