Early Life and Education

James Dooge, an Irish politician, was born in Dublin, Ireland. He completed his undergraduate studies at University College Dublin in 1954. Two years later in 1956, he further pursued postgraduate studies at Heidelberg University.

Academic Career

Dooge returned to Ireland and earned his doctorate in law in 1957. From the early 1960s onwards, he held teaching positions at Trinity College Oxford and later became a professor of constitutional law, Roman law, and jurisprudence at University College Dublin.

Political Career

Dooge's entry into politics began in 1973, when he was elected to the Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament, as a member of the Fine Gael party. He retained his seat until his retirement from politics in 1989.
