Early Life and FamilyJohnny Galecki is an American actor best known for his roles as Leonard Hofstadter in the comedy series "The Big Bang Theory," David Healy in the comedy series "Roseanne," and Rusty Griswold in "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation." He was born in Bree, Belgium to American parents of Polish-Italian-Irish descent. His family returned to the United States when he was three years old, and he grew up in Oak Park, Illinois. Johnny has a younger brother named Nick, who currently works in the automotive industry, and a younger sister named Allison.
Early Career
Johnny Galecki made his television debut in 1987 in the CBS miniseries "Murder Ordained." He appeared alongside JoBeth Williams and his future "Roseanne" co-star John Goodman. In 1989, Galecki starred in the film "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation," and in 1992, he joined the cast of the comedy series "Roseanne." In 1997, he appeared in the slasher film "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and the film "Suicide Kings." That same year, Johnny also appeared in the comedy film "Bean." In 1998, he had a role in the black comedy "The Opposite of Sex," and in 2001, he had a small role in the film "Vanilla Sky."
Broadway and Breakthrough Role
In late 2006 and early 2007, Johnny Galecki performed in the Broadway production of "The Little Dog Laughed." He portrayed the character Alex, a gigolo, which required him to fully undress on stage. Since September 24, 2007, Johnny Galecki has been portraying Leonard Hofstadter in the CBS comedy series "The Big Bang Theory." Initially, he was considered for the role of Sheldon Cooper but was ultimately cast as Leonard. The show also reunited Galecki with two former "Roseanne" cast members, Sara Gilbert and Laurie Metcalf. Throughout the series, Galecki had the opportunity to showcase his cello-playing skills on camera.
In 2008, Johnny had a small role in the parody superhero comedy film "Hancock" alongside Will Smith and Jason Bateman. In 2011, he appeared in the film "In Time" with Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried.
