Biography of Maria Sorte
Maria Sorte is a Mexican actress, singer, screenwriter, producer, and radio host. She was born on May 11, 1955, in Camargo, Mexico, to parents Jose Arfuch and Cecilia Martinez. Her father had Lebanese roots. Maria had a tragic childhood, as her paternal grandmother passed away in 1958, followed by the death of her father in 1959. After these events, she lost contact with her Lebanese roots and was raised in Mexican traditions.

Early Life and Career
Maria Sorte initially dreamed of becoming a doctor and moved to Mexico City with a friend to attend the National Autonomous University. However, her friend wanted to become an actress and convinced Maria to accompany her to audition at the Andres Soler Academy. The head of the academy, Luis Jimeno, asked Maria to read something for them. Initially, she declined, stating her desire to become a doctor. But after Jimeno's persuasion, she read several fragments of Mexican classics brilliantly, while her friend failed the audition. This led her to become a student at the Andres Soler Academy, leaving the National Autonomous University after just 15 days.
Shortly after starting her studies at the academy, Maria Sorte caught the attention of the renowned Ignacio Retes, who joined the academy as a teacher. Retes appointed her as a teaching assistant. At the end of the year, she was nominated for the "Best Young Actress" award, marking the beginning of her acting career. Maria desired to work in the international film industry but realized that talent was needed to balance her personal and professional life.
Acting and Singing Career
Maria Sorte became a radio host for a radio show, but she often forgot to turn off the microphone, leading to a reprimand from the studio owner. She gained recognition as one of the most famous actresses in Mexico and also pursued a singing career. She became known in Russia for her role as Daniela Lorente in the television series "My Second Mother."
Her stage name, Maria Sorte, was given to her by the famous TV personality and announcer, Neftali Lopez Pauz. He believed that her original surname, Arfuch, sounded terrible and would not be memorable. He suggested "Maria Sorte," which means "luck" in Italian. Maria embraced this pseudonym and became widely known by it.
Personal Life
In 1978, Maria Sorte met the renowned Latin American politician Javier Garcia Paniagua. They were together for 22 years and had two sons, Javier Adrian and Omar Hamid. Unfortunately, Maria lost her first child during pregnancy. On November 24, 1998, her husband, Javier, passed away from a heart attack on their ranch near Guadalajara. Devastated by the loss, Maria decided to quit filming the series "Privilege to Love." She never remarried and devoted herself to religion and raising her grandchildren.
After the birth of her sons, Maria Sorte refused to pose semi-nude for magazine covers and turned down opportunities to work in Hollywood. In 1989, she gained widespread recognition for her role as Daniela Lorente in the television series "My Second Mother." The series was a huge success, both in Mexico and internationally. Maria's portrayal of Daniela earned her numerous awards and accolades.
Despite offers to work in Hollywood, Maria Sorte declined and maintained her focus on her career in Mexico. She visited Belarus and Russia with her brother, children, and associated producer Juan Osorio Ortiz. They received a warm reception from fans in Moscow and St. Petersburg. The series "My Second Mother" was repeatedly aired in Belarus and Russia and even reached Azerbaijan in 1999.
Maria Sorte's talent and success in the entertainment industry have made her an iconic figure in Mexico and globally. Her dedication to her craft and her determination to balance her personal and professional life have made her a role model for aspiring actors and singers.
