Early Life and Career

Born on May 20, 1948, Jon Amiel began his career in the entertainment industry as a composer for London theaters. After graduating from college, he joined the Hampstead Theatre Club, a prominent London venue that showcased new plays. It was there that Amiel first ventured into directing.

From Hampstead to the RSC

Amiel's work at Hampstead Theatre led to a stint as a director for the Royal Shakespeare Company. He subsequently joined the BBC as a story editor. Within three months of directing television programs, he had established himself as an acclaimed director.

Television Success

Amiel's television directing credits include the award-winning miniseries "Romance Romance" (1984). He was drawn to unconventional and provocative material, as evidenced by his American television debut, "The Luck Child" in the children's fantasy series "The Storyteller" (1988).

Hollywood Debut and Beyond
