Biography of John Mirasty

Canadian hockey player, forward. Currently plays for the Chekhov-based team "Vityaz" in the KHL.

Early Career

John Mirasty began his professional career in 2000 as a member of the Western Hockey League's "Prince Albert Raiders". In that season, he also played for the "Tri-City Americans", participating in 40 on-ice fights in 67 games played.

After the 2001/02 season, John wanted to quit professional hockey and joined one of the lower Canadian leagues while working as a bouncer in a nightclub. However, before the start of the 2002/03 season, he was offered a contract by the "Bakersfield Condors" of the Eastern Coast Hockey League, where he accumulated 360 penalty minutes in 57 games played.

Later Career

Mirasty spent the following three seasons in lower North American leagues, averaging more than 8 penalty minutes per game. In the summer of 2007, John decided to retire from hockey and pursue professional mixed martial arts. However, just before the start of the 2007/08 season, with the help of his long-time friend Brandon Sugden, he signed a tryout contract for 25 games with the AHL's "Syracuse Crunch".

In his new team, Mirasty quickly became a fan favorite, and his agreement was extended. In a total of 182 games with the "Crunch", John earned 7 points (1+6) and 751 penalty minutes.

During the 2010/11 season, Mirasty once again played in lower leagues, after which he and his friend and distant relative Jeremy Yablonski reached an agreement with the Chekhov-based team "Vityaz". In his very first game with the Moscow Region club, John fought with Alexander Svitov and immediately accused KHL players of cowardice.

On October 16, in a match against the Novokuznetsk "Metallurg", Mirasty scored his first goal in the KHL. On November 30, in a game against the Astana "Barys", John fought twice with forward Josh Gratton, for which he was subsequently suspended for two games.

In his first game after the suspension, which took place on December 11 against the Riga "Dynamo", Mirasty attempted to start a fight with Latvian hockey players, but the referees did not allow him to do so. Nevertheless, John was ejected for the remainder of the game and then suspended for three games.
