Biography of John Montgomery

Introduction

John Montgomery is a Canadian skeleton racer who gained attention even before the Whistler Cup. He first caught the public eye when he won silver at the 2008 World Championships in Altenberg, Germany.

Jon Montgomery

Early Life

John Montgomery lived across from the Olympic Park in Canada, where the Calgary Games took place in 1988. One day, when his parents came to visit him, he gave them a tour of the complex. During their impromptu tour, they reached the bobsleigh track, where John saw a skeleton racer in the distance. At first, he thought something was wrong as the racer was going headfirst, which was impossible for regular bobsledding. However, he soon realized that it was a sport he was unfamiliar with. Intrigued, John gathered more information about skeleton racing and even signed up for an introductory session with the local section. By the following autumn, he had earned a spot in the Young Talents Club, and his career took off from there.

Early Career

For a while, John considered pursuing a career as a speed skater. However, he eventually realized that he lacked the necessary skills and decided to focus on skeleton racing. In February 2009, Montgomery won the Whistler World Cup, which qualified him for the Vancouver Games. He considers this victory to be the pinnacle of his career thus far, especially since he won in front of his family and friends. Montgomery enjoyed the Whistler tracks, finding them fun, fast, and perfectly suited to his skill level. He believes that Canadian athletes will have a clear advantage on their home track during the Olympic Games.

Continued Success

Montgomery's success continued in the 2007-2008 season, his second season participating in World Cups. He achieved his best results to date during this time. He won his first World Cup on the Olympic track in Cesana, Italy, and later earned silver at the World Championships. Winning silver was particularly meaningful to John because he did so in front of his parents. In the overall World Cup standings, Montgomery finished second. While some might view this progress as rapid, John himself sees it differently. He knows firsthand the amount of effort and training it takes to reach such achievements.

Personal Interests

Outside of skeleton racing, John Montgomery has a passion for the automotive industry. While studying at college in Winnipeg, he organized his first car auction. Enjoying the process, he decided to become a certified auctioneer. After graduating with a degree in business management, Montgomery worked as an auctioneer. Currently, he only practices this profession during the offseason, as a kind of hobby. During the summer weekends, he either hosts auctions or trades cars as an official dealer in Calgary. This job provides him with additional income, a flexible schedule, and the opportunity to interact with people.

Future Endeavors

John Montgomery is considered one of the top contenders for the gold medal in skeleton racing at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver. With his impressive achievements and dedication to his sport, he aims to continue representing Canada at the highest level of competition.
