Biography of Yun Sung-bin
IntroductionYun Sung-bin is a South Korean skeleton racer who has achieved great success in his career. He has participated in the Olympics in Sochi and has won and placed in various stages of the Skeleton World Cup.
Early Career
Yun Sung-bin began his international racing career in 2012 under the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation. He initially competed in the North American Cup races. In his debut season, his best result was fifth place in the final stage in Lake Placid.
First Victory and Olympic Games
In the Olympic season of 2013/14, Yun Sung-bin did not compete in the World Cup, focusing instead on the Intercontinental Cup. He achieved his first career victory during this cup, winning a stage on the Olympic track in Whistler. In February 2014, he participated in the Winter Olympic Games for the first time and achieved a ninth-place finish. Overall, he placed 16th after four runs, losing to the Olympic champion Alexander Tretiakov by 5.28 seconds.
Continued Success
On December 12, 2014, Yun Sung-bin made his World Cup debut in Lake Placid. He showed the second-best time during training but was disqualified during the competition. A week later, in Calgary, he achieved his first podium finish in his career, placing third behind the Dukurs brothers. He also finished second in the St. Moritz stage and again third in the final stage in Sochi. At the end of the season, he ranked sixth overall. In the World Championships in Winterberg, he finished in eighth place.
Season 2015/16
In the 2015/16 season, Yun Sung-bin had a slow start with a 12th place in Altenberg and a fourth place in Winterberg. However, he regained his form and consistently finished in the top three in the remaining six races. In the St. Moritz stage in early February 2016, he achieved his first victory, becoming the first South Korean to win a Skeleton World Cup stage. After the first run, he was in third place, but with an excellent second attempt, he overtook the Dukurs brothers by 0.07 seconds, ending Martin's unbeaten streak of six stages. In the overall standings, Yun Sung-bin finished in second place, the only athlete to surpass Martins Dukurs. He also won the silver medal at the World Championships in Igls, sharing it with Alexander Tretiakov and becoming the first South Korean to be a medalist at the World Championships.
