Origins and Early Life

François Huber was born into a family of Swiss beekeepers, his father also being a priest. He followed in his father's footsteps, being ordained as a priest in 1760.

Career as a Priest

From 1763 onwards, Huber served in various parishes around Neuchâtel. Despite his religious duties, he always maintained a keen interest in apiculture.

Pioneering Beekeeping

Huber is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of modern beekeeping. He developed and documented numerous innovations, including the use of cylindrical hives and double-bottomed wooden hives.

Published Works

Huber's seminal works on beekeeping include:

- "Description des ruches cylindriques et des ruches en bois à double fond" (1785)

- "Le conservateur des abeilles ou Moyens éprouvés pour conserver les ruches et pour les renouveler" (1816)

His writings revolutionized the practices of apiculture and continue to be influential today.
