Early Life and Career

Jonas Gutierrez, an Argentinian footballer born in Buenos Aires, commenced his professional career in 2001 with Velez Sarsfield. During his four-year tenure, he played a pivotal role in the club's Clausura triumph in 2005.

Move to Europe

In 2005, Gutierrez embarked on a European adventure, joining Spanish club Mallorca. Over the next three seasons, he featured in approximately 100 matches and netted 5 goals. His impressive performances earned him a five-year contract with English Premier League side Newcastle United in 2008.

Premier League Years

Guiterrez made his Newcastle debut in the opening match of the 2008-09 season against Manchester United. He quickly established himself as a reliable performer, playing a key role in Newcastle's 2009-10 Championship title win. In January 2014, after five seasons with the Magpies, he joined Norwich City on loan.

International Career

Guiterrez represented his country, Argentina, on 22 occasions. Former Argentina manager Diego Maradona described him as "one of eight players, along with Messi and Mascherano."

Nickname: Spider-Mag

During his time at Mallorca, Gutierrez adopted the nickname "Spiderman" after celebrating goals by donning a Spider-Man mask. After moving to Newcastle, Magpies fans nicknamed him "Spider-Mag" as an homage to the team's mascot, the magpie.

Illness and Recovery

In September 2014, Gutierrez was diagnosed with testicular cancer. He underwent surgery and received extensive chemotherapy treatment. In March 2015, he made his first post-illness appearance for Newcastle, captaining the team in a match against Manchester United.

Return to Spain

Following his release from Newcastle in June 2015, Gutierrez joined Deportivo La Coruna on a free transfer. He currently plays for Defensa y Justicia in Argentina's Primera Division.
